Is this film worth it for the dreamlike undersea exploration sequence that almost threatens to be boring by sheer virtue of continuing the sequence for way too long? To me, maybe, but to others, likely not. Deep Blood seems to offer up Jaws-inspired sharksploitation, but ends up offering an after-school special’s worth of cliches. The shark ends up not being the conflict, but rather petty small beach town squabbles between different cliques. Even though the film opens with insensitive native portrayals and a blood pact, the rest of the film cannot deliver on it. Perhaps, in the end, the real shark attack was the friends we made along the way.
