Certainly not a masterpiece, quite awkwardly directed at times, certain scenes feel weirdly unfinished, especially in their sound design. But you have to d admire the audacity of it. It comes very close to pulling off its vision at the end, which is kind of insane.
The other films are usually at their best when they work as ensemble pieces, but good move to focus on the main trio for this one, since it's so personal and spiritual.
Really could have been without that Uhura dance scene (seriously what the actual fuck were they on when they had that idea). Few other moments fall flat as well, but thankfully most of the humour lands very well.
Fantastic Jerry Goldsmith score
