Where has this been all my life?
Two episodes of creepy effed up horror a la Tales from the Crypt including a ghostly narrator to begin and end the tales. It looks older than it is; love that.
The horror and gore are pitch perfect, juxtaposing well against the young protagonists. The first ep has a few logistical issues, but that's hardly something I'm going to nitpick when it's this fun. Both eps feature a great atmosphere and made me recall being so scared of things as a kid (I was a huge scaredy cat; couldn't even finish E.T. the first time I saw it).
Here's the kicker, recalling this is from 1990, I'm surprised not only that the director is a woman, but that there's virtually no information about her online? Her only other credit I can find online is on imdb, being listed as part of the art department for one episode of the 1989 series, Jushin Liger. How mysterious! It's like she was a ghost of animation, herself!
I'm going to try to show some friends this. I think they'd get a kick out of it.
