Loved everything on the boat (that shipwreck was incredible) and the island (stunningly beautiful and I’m impressed they got such a great performance out of that horse!!) but, like many others, it started to lose me once Alec and The Black got back to the real world.
The entire final third of this movie I kept thinking it would subvert expectations with the horse race - especially after Snoe tells him that he should let the horse stay wild because it’s his soul… but that doesn’t seem to mean anything because we get a pretty standard “happy ending!”
Still enjoyed this pick and surprised I hadn’t seen it as a kid (probably because I stayed away from movies with horses after the trauma of seeing Artax die in The NeverEnding Story!).
