I have to finally concede that 365 films this year will not be possible. I blame that thing people call "jobs" for my shortcomings.

If you can look past the fact that this movie was filmed with a shoebox you'll be marveled at all the set and costume designs. They are truly a work of art for back then and even now. The iconic actors sprinkled throughout this made it fun for me to play the guessing game but this was just far too long of a runtime with not too much happening. This story is clearly too long for one feature film so I would've preferred a two parter.

I mean okay like it's a very impressive film to this day. Like to see them do everything, all the set designs and the battle sequences down to the costumes is quite impressive. I mean it's crazy that the set for the Roman Forum is literally half the size of the town I live in. But admittedly this fell flat. It has a very interesting story but lacked character and emotion. And when you compare it to Gladiator which was a spin on this story almost combining the story of this and the Spartacus, gladiator has so much to say and so much emotions in it. Still thr film was acted rather great. Alec Guinness is always amazing in his films I'm not even kidding he's a terrific actor and I always enjoy his work! James mason has a terrific voice and he's a great actor too. Stephen Boyd was okay not bad but I think the other actors overshadowed him. Omar Sharif was a nice addition to the cast as well. I think Christopher Plummer owned this film though as the megalomaniacal character of Commodus. He's terrific full of emotions and villainy. Sophia Loren is a nice addition but honestly I feel like this is very much a flowerpot role. She doesn't really have much to offer. Especially when you compare to her Italian films, this is nothing great. She's in it quite a bit though so that will not be disappointing to viewers of the film who like me are watching it for her. From Britain to Egypt, from Armenia to Spain, Marcus Aurelius was able to extend Rome's influence to its maximum. Things were moving forward everywhere. Progress dominated. A wonderful carefree feeling had come over the world, for what could interrupt this progress? What could hinder the enthusiasm that was constantly drawing new strength from its own momentum? The Roman Empire had never been stronger, richer or more beautiful. It has never believed more passionately in an even better future. And so history takes its course. Commodus becomes emperor and destroys his father's successes, a madman now sits on the throne. He throws his own empire into a civil war and ultimately brings about the end of this great Roman Empire.

The film was really beautiful, because this is Rome! At some points I even thought I couldn't bear so much Rome, but it was great anyway. The Fall of the Roman Empire is one of the last great epics and, in my opinion, one of the best alongside Ben Hur. There is so much pride in this film, so much epicness, that it almost blows you away. I believe Rome is truly one of the greatest things that ever happened. I will never stop thinking about the glorious Roman Empire, never forget its beauty.
