I watch this film only to make fun of it. And for Michelle Yeoh, John Hannah and Brendan Fraser. The worst decision ever was to recast Evie; if Rachel Weisz didn't want to come back don't bring Evie back at all, because the two are synonymous. Apart from the original cast (which is only two people) and Michelle, the acting all around sucks, and plot is executed very badly. The CGI somehow got even worse, which is crazy because there's almost a decade between the first film and this. Honestly, it's mostly childhood nostalgia that keeps me rewatching, so...yeah. Final thoughts: Brendan and Michelle deserve the world.

An ancient Chinese historical adventure movie with Jet Li and Michelle Yeoh? 

Count me in! Wait…it’s The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor? 

Yeah get the fuck out of here. 

Rick, Evy and John are back, son Alex is all grown up and part of the quote/unquote ‘fun’ too but Egypt is nowhere in site, here the action is set in China with Jet Li as a tyrannical emperor Mummy set to rule the world and Michelle Yeoh as an ancient wizard lady (I guess?) who teams up with the O’Connells to thwart his plans. 

Rick and Evy seems like totally different people…because one of them is! Brendan Fraser returns but Rachael Weiss has been replaced Darren in Bewitched style by Maria Bello. Alex has also been recast too, here played Luke Ford (not to be confused with the prominent early 2000s adult film industry journalist of the same name). 

While half the OG cast doesn’t return, the most important element of The Mummy franchise (bad CGI) is back in full force! I hope Radio Silence realises that they are going to have to purposefully fudge the effects in Part IV to make this a true Mummy movie? 

Johnathon calling his Shanghai based nightclub Imhoteps was the only good joke in the movie. 

Also is there a different movie where Terracotta warriors come to life? I swear I have seen that scene but remembered nothing else about this movie.

This was by far the weakest in the franchise. I don’t know WHAT they were thinking recasting the female lead but it was a horrible thought 😭. Them defeating the boss felt lackluster and quick for some reason, and I felt like there was no substance to this movie. The other 2 were somewhat entertaining because there plots weren’t horrible, this one just doesn’t do anything I was interested in. The big battle is cool but we’ve seen it before. I didn’t enjoy the family dynamic in this one either and then all of a sudden Rick almost dies and they give brief apologies and everyone’s “alright”.
