I watch this film only to make fun of it. And for Michelle Yeoh, John Hannah and Brendan Fraser. The worst decision ever was to recast Evie; if Rachel Weisz didn't want to come back don't bring Evie back at all, because the two are synonymous. Apart from the original cast (which is only two people) and Michelle, the acting all around sucks, and plot is executed very badly. The CGI somehow got even worse, which is crazy because there's almost a decade between the first film and this. Honestly, it's mostly childhood nostalgia that keeps me rewatching, so...yeah. Final thoughts: Brendan and Michelle deserve the world.

I expected it but wow this was rough. The loss of Rachel Weisz only symbolizes the step down in just about every facet of filmmaking, the script is just straight up bad through the whole thing even compared to The Mummy Returns, the CGI-action feels very uninspired and poorly choreographed, and the ancient mystery storyline is for the most part dull. Yet despite all of that I’d also say that it could’ve been a lot worse, that may very well be solely due to my passion for this sub-genre but I was having an okay enough time following this duller story throughout even with the wall-to-wall clichés and I think watching Fraser in this role, or honestly any role for that matter, will always give a floor of entertainment to a watch for me. The biggest positive and what I’d easily say was the best thing about this movie was Randy Edelman’s score, it really saved a lot of the action and emotional scenes from falling completely flat and for that reason really saved this, along with Fraser of course, from entering ‘one of the worst movies of all time’ territory. It’s not exactly a thought provoking watch so this short of a review shouldn’t shock anyone who’s seen it, calling it mediocre filmmaking might be generous and the experience is made even worse by the complete lack of soul compared to the first and even the second.
