Can a girl from Little Rock find happiness with a mature French planter she got to know one enchanted evening away from the military hospital where she is a nurse? Or should she just wash that man out of her hair? Bloody Mary is the philosopher of the island and it's hard to believe she could be the mother of Liat who has captured the heart of Lt. Joseph Cable USMC. While waiting for action in the war in the South Pacific, sailors and nurses put on a musical comedy show. The war gets closer and the saga of Nellie Forbush and Emile de Becque becomes serious drama.

when the film got swallowed by color at first, i was like … okay love. but then they did it so much that i was like okay great another beautiful shot of the beach and the sea that has …. a green filter over it. was not always so flattering. Rodgers & Hammerstein glowed tf up after this show, that’s for sure

(Commenting on the staging by the UST Conservatory of Music, not the film adaptation)
Love me a classic Broadway musical, but next time I have to keep in mind that the typical classic Broadway musical is typically overlong.
Anyway, I find this musical daunting and dense. The actors show incredible stamina with that 1hr 40m first act, which was awe-inducing from the overture up to its finish. The second act, however, I grew a bit restless, but the talent on display was still very much engrossing.
Also, I love the music so much. It soars and it swells in all the right places. Simply captivating. The overture is going straight to my musical theatre playlist.
PS This continues my streak of watching at Proscenium for free. I’ve been watching since the first ever production performed there, which was Pasasalamat by Alice Reyes Dance Philippines! Oh that was good, thank you tita Toots ❤️

this is one of the greatest musical soundtracks of all time ill never forget when i was 8 years old on holiday in whitby and my parents rented a car and the only cd we had was south pacific, so its all we listened to and then as soon as we got home i begged for weeks for my dad to buy me ‘bloody mary’ and ‘im gonna wash that man right out of my hair’ on my MP3 player. and then thats all i listened to basically until i broke the poor thing and holy shit like. despite being very dedicated to watching this, and i tried very hard, i couldn’t really tell you anything about the plot but how can i not love this movie its so beautiful when everything turns pink im obsessed i wish the world looked like that.. maybe if i take loads of lsd and go to the beach and listen to this soundtrack ill see the world like that please please PLEASE oh my god someone please lets take lsd and watch this
