Somehow got Sylvester Stallone, Michael Caine, Pelé, and Bobby Moore to all make a movie about playing the nazis in soccer. Unfortunately the script and editing were lacking with many scenes needing some sort of background music. The pacing was also off but the actual soccer played was great. Overall good idea poor execution.

Any match against Real Madrid is like any match against Nazi Germany.

Certainly a film with a story to tell. Michael Caine is sub-par yet again

Pelé = GOAT
What a fun little film. Of all the ww2 films this is one of the lighthearted ones. I mean there is no way this could have happened but I like to imagine it did.
Who thought “you know what let’s get all these legendary footballers and Rocky and put them in a POW camp and have them play against the nazis.” I think it’s great. As someone who likes football it’s so cool to see Pelé and Bobby Moore playing together. Of course Pelé has to score a bicycle kick. That’s why he’s the GOAT. I don’t see Maradona or Messi scoring against Nazis. I think it’s a shame we don’t find out what happens after the game although it is heavily implied.
This is the peak of Sly’s career. In between Rocky 3 and 4 and after First Blood. He gives that classic Sly attitude that everyone loves him for before he became this slurring words behemoth who does shit films. He plays a “yank” who has to masquerade as a goalkeeper for the match. He wasn’t very good.
Michael Caine is a legend. He gives no shits, not from Rambo or the Nazis. It was funny seeing his body double in the match. My issue is that he is supposed to be an ex West Ham player but I don’t see him as a West Ham kind of guy even though he is cockney.
If you like football this is a must watch.
