Quite a wonderful western featuring a very cool, cold and clean Gregory Peck as the fastest gun in the west, Jimmy Ringo. Ringo has a huge reputation following him, he’s feared and loathed wherever he goes, even when he’s visiting his girl he hasn’t seen in a while. This reputation overshadows Ringo’s humble and charming personality and it finally gets the best of him in the end. I found this film to be rather pleasing, a cool western (not much shooting happened) that’s mostly located within a small area and follows only one man, I liked the romantic aspects as well as the overall western style.

Gregory Peck is so cool in this. It’s a great "ticking clock" Western that focuses way more on the psychological toll of being a legend than just mindless shootouts. That mustache is iconic, and the tension is high throughout the whole thing.

​I’ll admit the ending let me down a little bit. It felt like it leaned into a trope I’ve seen in way too many other Westerns, which is a bummer because the rest of it felt so fresh and bleak for 1950. Still a great watch, even if the finale felt a bit predictable.

A great movie that explored excellent themes. And the movie did a great job displaying those themes. Being the “tough” guy in life is not the way to go. The ending especially was so profound and deep. Only thing I wish is that the story was a bit faster.
