It's a fine take on Hal's orgin story, but it's trying to do a whole bunch in its short runtime and I think it condenses a little too much. Like, Sinestro's part needed to be much longer in order to really build an understanding of how his actions effect the Green Lantern Corps and especially Hal. I won't spoil anything because most people have very minimal (if any) exposure to the Green Lantern universe as a whole but the lore is old and deep, so making a short movie tell a good chunk of plot in an understandable way is a difficult task that I think they mostly did a good job with. Really, First Flight comes off as a kind of shallow story that has a lot of "Hey, I know that guy back there" and "I know where this is going" opportunities for Lantern Fans. In a vacuum, it's got great voice acting and animation (although Hal's face looks pretty fucked up and angular a lot of the time) and the story makes sense and is enjoyable, even if it feels a little rushed and light on plot.
