Was surprised to see the LB rating for this be SO low but I do kind of get it. It’s got that purposefully bizarre quality to it. Surrealist films can often get away with not making sense on the principle of “if it’s cool enough, who gives a shit?”— a principle that I stand by, don’t get me wrong. Some of this just feels bizarre for the sake of being bizarre; like bro clearly really wanted to make a Lynchian found footage movie.
But you know what? It works for me! It more often than not works for me. There are parts that work better than others, but the atmosphere and the PD and the experiments with discontinuity editing and the dream logic and the ways they break the rules of the subgenre and the overall creativity? Just really has kept this movie in my head since I first saw it.
Would actually quite like to see another Mueller film; always felt this and Rebirth got more hate than they deserved.
