I went into this knowing only the title translation is a bit funny, and that Hashimoto (who I loved in World of Kanako) was here. To be honest, I really thought I was sitting down to a much more light hearted film, as the poster kinda gives me a comedy feel. Honestly though, after getting past the "huh this isn't what I expected this to be", I was totally in love -- this was great. Almost reminded me of a less violent, more subdued Blue Spring.
It pains me to see the two who unexpectedly meet at Tetsuo to not miraculously end up together -- but there lies the film's entire thesis: how we confine ourselves to our social circles, afraid to like what we like due to fear of being ostracized and the eventual fallout. Along with the heartbreak of realization that sometimes, what we want just isn't feasible, no matter how hard we try. But does that mean we shouldn't try at all? Sometimes, you just gotta keep pushing until draft season is over.
