Quite an interesting film from German Expressionism, that almost fully relies on artificial sets that give the film a very theatrical feel. The story itself was pretty basic, following a poor bank teller who embezzled money from the bank and set off to the capital city to find excitement in various different activities and places. It all looked very beautiful with some dazzling costume and set design, and an abstractionist style that really nicely worked with the black and white film from this era. I loved the horse racing scene with the very abstract looking horses and exaggerated acting.
