Luisa is called to the bed of her dying mother Edith at Karlstein Castle. Before she dies, she tells Luisa that the Karlsteins are a family of vampires and that her ancestor, the original Count Karlstein, lies buried in the crypt. Afterwards, Luisa goes and finds the count's coffin and discovers that he is undead. As she takes Karine, her cousin as her lover, a police inspector, Ptuschko investigates a series of killings around the town, dismissing the locals who insist these are being caused by vampires.

This movie has some good, some odd and just bushy transitions. My biggest problem with this movie it feels like they give you one interesting scene or plot then instead focuses on something completely different and much less interesting. This one just didn't work for me but I can say choices were made on those transition shots.

Going into any low budget vampire film from the 60s and 70s (specially those with lesbians) one should expect a certain amount of nudity and sexualization. Daughter of Dracula however stands out as its director Jess Franco shot it like an actual porno. He zooms in on his starts’ nipples and vaginas for so long that you feel complicit in his lasciviousness.

Kino Cult has a fair amount of his films and I’ll be sure to check them out later this month. As an introduction to his oeuvre I think this was a poor choice but before anything I’m an exploitation and B-movie enjoyer so I’m not complaining.
