first things first - i adore tom selleck so obviously love watching because of him 
overall, a neat film! what was eventually revealed as clown makeup did throw me at first although i guessed pretty early on about the acrobat background 
funny how phil is constantly told his books were predictable but the movie sort of was but like sam said some audiences enjoy that it's comfortable 
love the hair cutting sequence film wise, the external view really gave a great insight to how phil was feeling
with that said, definitely would be a comfort film to watch
