Based on the play by playwright Neil Simon, Barefoot in the Park is a funny romantic comedy starring two stunners in Robert Redford and Jane Fonda. One thing that Simon gets flack for is his misogynistic portrayal towards women, and I think we can see that here with Corie (Jane Fonda), a vivacious lover who can’t seem to get her hands off her newlywed Paul (Robert Redford), an uptight lawyer who’s drive for success gets in the way of Corie’s desire for 24/7 affection.
Released in 1967, you can clearly see that this film is a product of its time, but that doesn’t mean that it still isn’t a fun watch. Jane Fonda’s overacting perfectly fits the character of Corie, and her smooth talking with Paul is both hilarious and romantic. There’s some great, memorable scenes in this film. This is definitely a film you’d show your grandmother if you want something to laugh with.
