Obviously, a movie called planet of the vampires is going to be something that I want to watch so I’m stoked that I finally got around to it. This is definitely an interesting film. It’s definitely an early sci-fi movie. This came out before Star Wars and even 2001. It feels very akin to something like Star Trek the original series. It does have that Mario Bava lighting, and in a sci-fi context, his lighting is even more striking. I did have a really fun time with this, all of the costumes and the sets are very striking. It does take a while for the vampires to show up and it does end up being a very interesting take on vampires. This one leans little more heavily into the sci-fi side of sci-fi horror but that’s okay. It’s an interesting change of tone for Mario Bava. I will say having now seen 6 of Bava’s flicks, this man knows how to end a movie. Absolutely brilliant ending to this flick. Really fun time besides the fact that I had to watch this on Plex and they played 3 minutes of adds every 10 minutes…
