Bumbling professor Ned Brainard accidentally invents flying rubber, or "Flubber", an incredible material that gains energy every time it strikes a hard surface. It allows for the invention of shoes that can allow jumps of amazing heights and enables a modified Model-T to fly. Unfortunately, no one is interested in the material except for Alonzo Hawk, a corrupt businessman who wants to steal the material for himself.

Imagine your fiancé not showing up to your wedding three times in a row. At that point, just don't marry him. Being married to someone that forgetful would be hell! I am guessing she only ended up marrying him because she knew his invention would make him very rich. Smart woman!

It’s nice to finally see the film that inspired Flubber. It’s clear that the Robin Williams joint lifted a lot of its story from this film without much change, for the most part. While not as bombastic, The Absent-Minded Professor still is a delight in its own right and does pull off impressive visual effects for its time. The aging of these effects in the years since has only added to its charm

i don't know, maybe this film is more enjoyable when you actually LIKE the titular character. personally, i couldn't stand him. i don't know why that woman married him in the end because he didn't really DO anything nice or romantic for her in the entire runtime. he was just annoying. she deserves better!
moving on... this movie's effects were super impressive for the time & very fun to watch. the story itself was a little uninspired, and the action was repetitive, but i can definitely see people being engaged by this. to me, though, it just felt like an inferior rendition of the shaggy dog from a few years earlier where the big secret is a flying car rather than a human-dog hybrid.
