I can look past the propaganda, but I cannot ignore how bland and suspense free this is (which is clearly a result of making sure you don’t forgot the propaganda )
Kurosawa does do some interesting stuff with the characters though, and although it’s never alluded to directly in the film, there is a kind of sorrow energy radiating off the apparently optimistic themes
Seeing Kurosawa’s comments about this afterwards definitely makes it a more interesting experience, not a more interesting film lol, but more interesting as a look at a moment of time
