Idk what’s more traumatizing, the toilet scene in trainspotting or the supermarket scene in this movie !

During Covid lockdown my family and I would alternate letting each other pick a movie that we would all watch. This was my dad’s pick, and despite its scarily low rotten tomatoes rating he assured us it was really funny and we would love it. I feel so strongly about this movie that here I am, years later going back to write this review off of memory because I’ve never forgotten it.
I could not believe my eyes. This is one of my most unbelievably bad pieces of media I have ever seen. Had I had any option to, I would have shut it off at many different points. Actually, I recall everyone in my family repeatedly telling my dad to turn it off throughout the movie. He assured us we needed to give it a chance and keep watching. Not even close to funny, to start with. I don’t even mind crude humor, but geez. Huge swings and misses. Cringey, offensive, crude humor is all this movie attempts.
More than anything, I can’t believe this was written by a woman. Genuinely I can’t see how a woman could write that period scene and be happy with it. And how the the hell did this get made? How did it get approved by multiple people and teams? This is one of those movies that is a testament to the fact that talent and quality are NOT indicators of if your film can or will be made. If I could rate this lower I would. I will say it wins one award from me, it is my least favorite movie I’ve seen of all time. And I’ve seen some rough films.
