An old man is wandering round a badly signposted and as yet mostly under construction Prague housing estate looking for the high rise block into which he is supposed to be moving with his daughter's family. The old granddad from the countryside likes chatting, nothing escapes his eyes and he wants to give everyone a helping hand.

The music over all the construction is making the cranes seem really fucking terrifying.

No plot, no center, no way out. Just faces, corridors, and the sound of someone else’s life echoing through the panels. Felt like I got lost at a construction site and kept overhearing strangers’ conversations while no one noticed I was there

I had a hard time with this.

It's like "Playtime," yeah, but instead of just Hulot being lost and disoriented, it's literally everyone. And even the whimsy is depressing. And everyone's an asshole, or in pain, or selfish, or lying, or duplicitous, or in deep need for something they're never going to get.

And also there's a fair amount of what looks today like child abuse.

That said, as a Soviet-era absurdist horror film, I didn't hate it. Vera Chytilova clearly knows what she's doing.
