Not to romanticize the movie, but this song is literally made for the main characters.

Besides that, I think it portrays well what it’s like to be a teenager struggling with dark thoughts, the feeling of being completely misunderstood, the pressure of living up to family expectations, and the weight of parents projecting their own ideal into their child.

Overall, it’s a good movie about suicide prevention.

i honestly went into this thinking that this would be about recovery but this was still really moving and still as important today as it was in 1985. Whilst it is a grim topic, I think that ‘teen suicide’ needs to be talked about more, especially in film as it is a rather pressing matter that becomes more and more relevant every decade, the more people talk about it and continue to make films about it, particularly like this one which includes the effect on family and friends, the more we can talk about it in other areas. People say that now everyone is suicidal or depressed which very well may be true but there is still this stigma around suicide, particularly in teenagers that no one wants to talk about it. This was a really honest film which I appreciate as a lot of films in the theme of teenage suicide tend to glamorise it which is worse than not talking about it at all.
