Something about this film feels so homey, although it is a thriller. I don’t know how Altman did it but every character feels as if you have known them your whole life. No need for an introduction or explanation. Just one of the coolest protagonists in a film that I have ever seen. First time watching this film and this might have just become a new comfort movie for me, oddly enough.

Marlowe is cooler than James Bond.
James Bond needs a gun—Marlowe barely needs to be awake.

Swaggy-ass man. This movie has such a unique tone and character, and it was so shockingly great that it made me wonder how I’ve never seen it in anyone’s top four or even as a recommendation.

I think he smoked enough cigarettes to kill a small village. The real villain might be secondhand smoke.

This movie makes very little sense, but just feels right.
