The story begins with three Aliens in human form preparing for a ritual to feed the Fog Mother's "siblings". The Fog Mother last came to earth during the Prehistoric Age and is the cause of the extinction of the dinosaurs. Kenji and his kid sister are in the mountains, investigating all the deaths of animals and trees there. The Fog Mother sends the three aliens, "Gorai", "Zuu", and "Agito" to kidnap Kenji's baby sister for the sacrifice.

Not as breathtaking as it's sister film Kamen Rider ZO from the previous year, but what Kamen Rider J lacks in creature design, story and character, and unique action sequences, it makes up for in these luscious other-worldly Fantasy Sci-fi soundstages that are fascinating to explore visually.
Worth a watch, but ZO is better overall.

Back with Kamen Rider J! I can't imagine this topping ZO on any level, but it'd be incredibly tight if it did. Promising already with the Gigeresque occult cave (later turns out to be a fucking battleship), and the mechanical eldritch god with her hundreds of alien eggs and psychic priests. There's immensely cool about how the Fog Mother violates all these different categories.
Immense value generated by J's little bug friend. She sacrifices her insectoid life for our hero and his sister!! (She gets better, though.) Nobody who hates Berry could be a good person. Anyone who loves Berry must be a good person. There, I said it.
Monster designs also generally incredible in this, just like the last film, and our lair turns out to be a monumental battleship that the eldritch god, the Fog Mother, travels around in.
The plot element of dinosaurs going extinct because of the Fog Mother is sort of amazing.
There are a lot of insane things that happen. The ideas are way bigger here than in ZO, with lightsabers that turn into whips and gigantic battleships exploding the Japanese countryside, the birthing of a massive litter of disgusting eldritch monsters, J going all Ultraman on the Fog Mother's battleship, and so on.
Alright, I admit, this is actually a bit better than ZO. The reduction in exposition allowed Amemiya to fit more insane action in, and the battleship's design, like the spider monster from ZO, rivals any monster design ever seen, while also getting to do far more. Of course, the actual Kamen Rider design is also better in this film.
Really, the only problem I have with it is that there isn't 30+ hours of Kamen Rider J for me to watch through.
