Very Happy Alexander

I watched this film when I was very young and cried so hard at the final shot. This was the first time a film made me cry, not out of sadness, but something entirely new at the time. A feeling that wasn’t yet in my vocabulary. 

I hadn’t watched this film since, but I spent my entire life thinking about it. Something about it just shook me to my core. Following his authoritative wife’s death, a man finally get to fulfil his only ambition in life by staying in bed, doing nothing and spending time with his dog, while some of the townsmen, afraid of his influence, declare a war against him. A French classic. 

I thought it only convenient to rewatch it for the first time in over 15 years, as today marks my first day ever out of college. As a new functioning adult in the modern world, I woke up with the sole ambition to stay in bed, do nothing and spend time with my cats. At least for a week or so. I couldn’t pick a better film to open the gates of adulthood. 

This movie is a visual wonder ; every shot is straight out of a surrealist dream. I was surprised to remember so many details from the plot, having only forgotten the actors’s faces, which is embarrassing, considering that some of the best French actors of the 70s are starring in this. The dog being the best actor, obviously.

C'est vraiment mon objectif de vie

J'adore la vibe, Alexandre et son chien (qui est quand même un peu chiant à aboyer tout le temps à la fin) sont trop mimis et c'est fun, même si j'avoue des fois ça finit par être un peu lourd.

Je sais pas vraiment comment expliquer quand il vit sa vie dehors avec son chien et quand il s'en va à la fin je suis tellement content pour lui, j'ai envie d'être à sa place (en plus c'est le bac blanc je suis pile dans la vibe genre laissez moi aller courir dans les champs et regarder les animaux dans la forêt). Même le personnage est génial je trouve c'est le meme du chill guy tout le temps et je sais pas je trouve ça beau comme rapport à la vie

Après quand même dépeindre toutes les meufs comme des tortionnaires qui en veulent qu'à son argent c'est un peu abusé mais tfaçon la rousse elle me saoulait depuis le début et je trouve que ça fonctionne super bien la scène de fin en mode non je vais pas me faire prendre 2 fois c'est presque nique le mariage nique les conventions sociales nique tout j'adore
