For me, this is one of Elvis best movies, old movies can be really repetitive and kinda with the same plot, but not this one. And boy, he looks soooo good here 😭

i wasn't planning to watch this tonight. i was wanting to watch a film starring walter matthau, preferably in a more serious, starring role, as july 1st (which i realize was yesterday) marked 25 years since the day he passed away. the website i tried to watch my first choice on wouldn't let me play the video, and the next two i tried on a streaming service didn't have subtitles. while i do wish the movie i watched fit better with my plan, this film was phenomenal(!) and there's certainly still something to say about walter matthau.
so, walter! he has such an infectious smile, it's if simply just looking at him can make me feel better. his character in this film is a ruthless, manipulative, scumbag, who at times, genuinely scared me. he's hard for me to hate, but he's incredible in this villainous role. my favourite film i've seen walter in so far also has him as an extremely seedy character, yet in the last two movies of his i watched before this one, he was playing a kindhearted old man, and he performs all of these roles wonderfully. i haven't watched all too much of his filmography yet, but i've got a feeling that his mere presence makes any movie better. may his memory be a blessing. <3
i do not wish for this review to steer too far away from walter, but i will say that this movie was absolutely excellent and made my heart race. i loved the music and i loved the fighting. i had to rewind when walter beat elvis with that chair. i'm surprised by how strong of a performance elvis had here.
