Surprisingly sexy and tense watch. I hope to have seen all the Palme D’Or winners by the time I see the new Östlund film Triangle of Sadness, which won the award this year.
The camerawork is strange and exquisite. Tilted angles and silhouettes and other innovative stylistic flourishes elevate the static nature of the play. I think the only way to truly adapt a play is to make it visually interesting, and Miss Julie certainly delivers on that front. Liked it a lot more than I expected to.
