"HAAAAAAAAAAARRRYYYY!"
Ah, yes, the iconic low-budget B movie, Attack of the 50 Foot Woman. It's a classic example of the genre, but as I expected, it’s pretty shit. The film has its moments of impressiveness, especially considering the era it was made in, but unfortunately, those moments are few and far between. What pisses me off the most with the film is the pacing. The buildup to the actual giant rampage is painfully slow, with the titular character's transformation taking far too long to unfold. In fact, the whole giant rampage doesn't kick off until the last 10 minutes of the film, which is hardly enough time to salvage the overall experience. By that point, I was more annoyed than engaged, and even the climactic scenes felt lacklustre and uninteresting.
The plot itself is riddled with clichés and lacks depth. It's clear that the filmmakers were trying to tackle themes of isolation and the struggle for self-assertion, but these ideas get lost in the chaos of the film's execution. The dialogue is cringeworthy, and many of the characters lack any real development, making it difficult to invest in their stories or motivations.
Also, piss off, she's not 50 feet tall.
