TV cameraman Harry Hinkle is injured while filming a football game. Seeing big dollar signs, his unscrupulous ambulance-chasing lawyer brother-in-law Willie Gingrich enters the picture, and convinces Harry to overstate his injuries and claim $1 million in pain and suffering. A Billy Wilder directed comedy starring Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau is as awesome as you’d expect.
This is legitimately so funny. Had me chuckling every scene it felt like! Wilder’s scripts are always the best of the best. Great watch. Lot of fun. Not my favorite Wilder but he hasn’t had a miss yet.
“Fair enough?”
“It may be fair, but it’s not enough.”

The Fortune Cookie is a sharp, well acted dark comedy with standout chemistry between Lemmon and Matthau. Matthau’s Oscar winning performance as a sleazy lawyer, and Wilder’s direction brings just the right mix of wit and cynicism. A smart, entertaining look at greed and the legal game.

I saw another review that said this movie is good but would be even better if it was half an hour shorter. I'm inclined to agree. It really slows down after about an hour and fifteen minutes. But Walter Matthau is really able to just carry this movie on his shoulders in an impressive way.
