I found out today it’s the anniversary of Hiroshima and since I’ve ran out of nuclear fallout movies. So I guess it’s time to watch Japan’s most famous cultural response to that tragedy, Godzilla.
But, I’m watching the weird American version cause it’s 7am and I don’t know how my attention span is doing. Since it’s a recut of a movie I haven’t seen. I have to judge this version on what I think is its own merits. To which there is very few. This was giving weird self insert fan fiction the entire time. Steve Martin is your most basic male movie protagonist, the only interesting thing about him is that he’s American and can’t speak Japanese. It’s also funny they have to show the stand ins of the Japanese cast from behind so you don’t notice it’s not the same actors.
If I say Godzilla reminds me of my dog. He’s so adorable, it upsets me that he’s so evil.
