I can totally imagine people being into this. It's a movie that feels like it belongs playing on the TV at my grandparents' house when I was a child, and there's a comfort in that. But otherwise, this was a chore to get through and never got into it. The technicolor and locations are gorgeous, the yearling is cute, and Gregory Peck is reliable as always. But the story never particularly grabbed me, and the child performance was constantly oscillating between endearing and annoying to me. This movie probably needs the viewer to be in a certain mode to watch this, and I'm just not there at all.

okay two things. 1st that little boy said pa so many times i actually was starting to go a little insane. 2nd this movie is literally about the boy and the deer but he doesn’t meet the deer until an hour in😀. i’m sure there’s a lot of people who like this movie i just don’t think i was ever the target audience of it.

I always thought this film would primarily be about the main boy character taking care of a fawn, but that didn’t happen until an hour into it. I was surprised to see that it won a couple Oscars, and it was even nominated for Best Picture. It’s not a bad film, but it just kind of struck me as something that wouldn't be popular with The Academy. I mean, it was cute, but it wasn’t outstanding.
