The best courtroom dramas usually don't just focus on who's right and wrong, innocent or guilty, but it crosses a line of questioning within the viewer whether that be through murder in 12 Angry Men or Antony of a Fall or a moral grey area of religion and evolution in Inherit the Wind. I'm an atheist. I've never seen anything that could prove anything else but I'm no going to stop people from following Christianity or any other religion but I think I know a fucking line you can't cross. Threatening to kill people because they don't believe what you believe is r******d and insults other people in that religion who accept other people's beliefs. Using this idea, the two leads are definite foils when it comes to how they believe others should feel about religious spirituality and this ideas transitions into the theme of accepting the ways in which other people think. The town is protryawd extremely well with their cheering and protests, creating a dangerous area of these different ideas to come to fruition. It's insane that this is still relevant despite how Darwin's theories are more accepted. I hate calling people out because they are different but you can't just change somebody because of their ideas and that's what this film is notable for, just presenting the idea as it is.
