Very natural and brilliant, the family chemistry is just pure bliss. Seeing that it was made in 1989, the way the characters act or react is very similar and also superior to how characters are written today.

I'm a freaking masochist for watching this again and again. Such an immaculate pack of onions, never fails to make you weep.

The performances from Mohanlal and Thilakan are spellbinding and incredibly immersive… don’t think I’ve seen a film that portrays so rawly how little control we have over things we perceive as ours. Every main character’s strife is full of nuance and deep interpretation. There’s no pure protagonist, and no antagonist is defeated without feeling some pity as a viewer. You, as the viewer, often feel just as frustrated as each member of the family does. Every person in the unit has their own separate frustrations that are often against a fellow family member, and yet you can’t help but feel for all of them at the same time. Masterfully written script.
