It’s arguably the weakest of the trilogy, the one with the slowest pacing, and a lot less nuanced than the previous installment. But Fritz Lang still directs like the goat that he is, and the third act is nothing short than great (although the last 30 seconds kinda ruin it). The twist, while some of it doesn’t make sense regarding what was stablished in the previous films, manages to connect what seemed like two very distant pieces of the same story, not only narratively but also thematically and formally.

Lang's final film is a return to his most famous character, and I wish he did a dozen more of these. Each Mabuse film are all rather different stylistically, but all are very fun and very much feel like part of the same series. Lang's main preoccupation here is surveillance, and it's very unnerving how much that remains relevant. Love that Gert Fröbe is the detective here, that's just casting that feels right. I look forward to eventually watching the sequels made to this film that are included on the Mabuse Lives! Eureka set, which I hope are still fun even if it doesn't have Lang's masterful hand involved. And with that, that's another filmography marathon done!

It’s definitely not as good on rewatch because you lose the mystery aspect but it’s still solid. Noticed some cool things with the editing I didn’t notice beforehand.
