Very solid remake! At first you definitely expect a shot-for-shot but this one manages to bring new content to the table. There’s definitely a strange lack of gore for this being a Savini film, especially when you look at his earlier work with Romero in the directors seat. That’s not a problem though, just thought it was worth mentioning. Id say the main difference other than the ending is the overall character of Barbara. I think she’s actually more likable in this one than in the original. If nothing else she’s definitely developed better. I also appreciate the fact that the zombies are gross here. Usually when it’s a fresh outbreak, the zombies are just people with white eyes or something with the exception of the first zombie which is disproportionately grosser. In this one they all have a unique design and the practical effects are really good. You get the feeling that they truly are “dead, and all messed up.”
