Very solid remake! At first you definitely expect a shot-for-shot but this one manages to bring new content to the table. There’s definitely a strange lack of gore for this being a Savini film, especially when you look at his earlier work with Romero in the directors seat. That’s not a problem though, just thought it was worth mentioning. Id say the main difference other than the ending is the overall character of Barbara. I think she’s actually more likable in this one than in the original. If nothing else she’s definitely developed better. I also appreciate the fact that the zombies are gross here. Usually when it’s a fresh outbreak, the zombies are just people with white eyes or something with the exception of the first zombie which is disproportionately grosser. In this one they all have a unique design and the practical effects are really good. You get the feeling that they truly are “dead, and all messed up.”

The remake has been on my watchlist for a while and finally caught it with a solid crowd thanks to Hollywood Theatre. 

Really great for a remake! Which is saying a lot given how good and impactful Romero’s 1968 film was. Great shot for shot moments, as well as some deviations from original story.

Ben is an all time character and Tony Todd did a wonderful rendition! Rest of the cast was great too.

This is one of the best remakes I’ve ever seen. It successfully captures the feeling of the original while offering a new perspective and even including an alternate ending. For me, some of the changes subtracted from the subtext but some changes also added to it, so it’s hard to say whether they were for the worst or not. One of the best things about this movie is that the zombies look totally awesome, but unfortunately, with the added action scenes and gore on the zombies, the final product feels schlocky and unintelligent compared to the original.
