today been a shit day lowkey so i needed some incredible campy trek to get me through it. this was great idc how corny some of it could be considered and the general campiness of the film is, its great. i could write thousands of my love of data but i will refrain myself from indulging too thoroughly — tho i will still indulge 😛
data is so freaking cute i cant i love everything he embodies and everything he becomes and does not become throughout all of trek. data's existential goal of becoming more 'human' and to rid himself of his artifical state for a more personable one has always been one that has stuck with me — more so than that of spock's or odo's (i love them too tho). but data has always been the most convincing and relatable for me as an anxious nerd who has the social skills of a tin can. but to see data struggle when he gets the opportunity to feel emotions for the first time tugged at my heart strings in a way i dont think anyone can comprehend. i shouldn't be on the verge of tears for a pale white fictional android loving the fact he hates a drink — yet, i am. data is my star trek goat and he likely forever will be. this film is a perfect example of why i love data and why everyone should love data. this is why data was my pfp for two years at intermediate (embarrassing lore drop but still). this is why i wanted to go as data for yr 8 halloween yet was too socially anxious and inept — like data 😛 — to go (more embarassing lore dropping).
aside from data, this film was convinving, emotional and just good trekky fun. it was clearly a tng episode with a big budget and they used that to the nth degree. massive sets and moving cinematography that they never could've achieved with the incredibly bare budgets allocated for weekly eposodic tng or tos. my only massive gripe is the pacing. the start of the film is really good and im hooked but the middle does kinda feel empty at times despite my overall holistic enjoyment. also some characters feel under-utilised unfortunately. i wish ricker had more to do alongside troi and even la forge and worf.
overall really good and fun tho!
