An interesting case study in the limitations of certain kinds of plot. For the most part, this is a movie about happy people being happy. Even when Cathy's mother shows up, everyone seems to generally go with the flow. Unfortunately, this doesn't lead to a "real" movie, so all sorts of hackneyed obstacles are introduced and inevitably, anti-climactically overcome. (To some extent, this is also the issue with Amy Heckerling's I Could Never Be Your Woman.) One day, someone will crack the code on how to make a feature without these plot devices; until then, options like Summer Lovers are more than sufficient.
