Honestly, not a bad film. The film is a pretty good representation of George Hubert Mead's argument of the three stages of self-development: the Preparatory stage, the Play stage and the Game stage. Nell never got that development of self through stages, as one of the stages argues that children imitate people around them. When Nell didn't have anyone to imitate, it caused her development to be estranged from societal norms and values. It's a good commentary on the importance of primary and secondary socialisation. There was, at times, some poor execution of the representation of cases such as this, but the message was still clear.
