Once again, I was actually trying to rewatch The House with Laughing Windows (I can’t find it 😒) and stumbled into another WHK on the way. It’s actually miraculous that I found another one with eng subs bc I was starting to lose hope. Anyways, I digress.
Walter Hugo Khouri just gets it, man. “It” being eerie, silent, close-up, liminal, natural, picturesque, organic, transcendent, gothic, existential, ocular, honest…etcccccc.
Just like he did in Angel of the Night, WHK personifies the house into its own being that seems to have an effect on the actions of the characters. Even the figurines and paintings within the house feel alive, as WKH is constantly panning and zooming into them, making it feel like they are alive and observing the three characters.
There’s so much beauty in the silence and the glances and the shadows and the light. Makes the average movie seem excessively loud in comparison.
