While on the surface it seems like this is just a misogynistic film, it uses the misogyny and misandry to show how stupid and single-minded the communist dictatorship of Poland was. I mean think about it, two sexes like a 2 party system, but become all under one with propaganda about how Einstein was a woman and how Cain killed his sister Abel. While this new government may seem like extreme feminism, extreme feminism is about hating the system that is male favored, not males themselves as individuals. And while this film also seems transphobic, it’s because having all people under one rule, or sex for that matter.
Obviously these men are misogynistic, but they don’t hold hatred or contempt for the women. They have a prejudice against them, and they dislike what the women have become in this system. Paradys, the more outspoken one, is focused on the idea of seeing this new world as an opportunity to have endless sex, but his arc is really interesting to see in the end when he’s completely nervous and is bumbling his way of asking consent from the woman that’s been with them for a lot of the movie. I know this will be a hot take, but I really like how it’s not a complete 180 for him. Obviously the prejudice is still there, but it has lessened and he doesn’t see her as an object to stick his dick in.
People who have seen this movie will point out that he forces himself onto women when kissing them. I’m not arguing with that, it’s very uncomfortable to watch. But understand that both sides are flawed in their way and it would be impossible for them to realize what is the correct thing to do. But they do move further away from their ideals, which I like from a narrative standpoint.
I do think my favorite scene is them seeing the kids and the kids swarming them and hugging them. I like that a lot.
