Underrated sci/fi flick does a decent job exploring the rather minor Cypher subplot in THE MATRIX about wanting to be plugged into the Matrix. "Ignorance is bliss," he says. As with his other films, Mostow demonstrates a propensity for the big genre stuff, which I'm intrigued by; the vision of the future nods toward Fassbinder's WORLD ON A WIRE, that's cool too. The main thing that hurts this movie is Willis, who is rather boring in the lead. Otherwise, cool little "false consciousness" argument.
