Could not get over how unintentionally funny some of this was. My favorite bits:
The panflute guys timing, the priest writing “I can’t write anymore because some idiot drank my ink”. Klaus Kinski chucking that monkey he monologued to and that guys head falling off but finishing his count.

there's such an intense fear and loneliness packed into this. like i really feel like these guys are just floating down a river to nowhere, with no clue what will be around the next bend. god is not on your side anymore.

had no clue the famous wrath of god speech was in the final 15 minutes of this but kinski's constant fourth wall breaks are almost genius (though he was probably just staring daggers at herzog behind the camera), daring the audience along with the rest of his crew to defy him. also decapitation scene goes crazy what the FUCK 😭

An all time performance from Kinski combined with some of the most riveting aesthetic’s, top cinematography and a delightful soundtrack should be an easy recipe for an atg film but for some reason it fails to evoke that feeling in me. I can’t pinpoint whether it was the somewhat stilted acting by everyone else or the underwhelming plot but it felt like was a 1 man team with Kinksi doing his best 18 Bron impression.
