“the pleasure of memory will win out. i won’t let painful emotions overwhelm me— i hope.”
like a warm, bittersweet hug. i don’t know why but i kept tearing up throughout the entire thing, just randomly, i don’t know if i’m just in a really sentimental mood right now, but seeing something as simple as people decorating the streets to celebrate such a wonderful film, and hearing the participants of such reminiscence of the past, from a small cameo of the men remembering being little kids dancing with Gene Kelly, to Agnès narrating with such love when it came to something as mundane as Jacques putting his sweater on, Legrand saying “[i dedicated to him] a main artery of my life, an artery leading from my heart.” and of course, Catherine getting misty-eyed talking about Françoise, it all moved me so deeply.
what a wonderful documentary, the love and care just oozes out of the screen, not only from the people involved in the original movie, but also from everyone that lives a normal life in Rochefort and hold the film dearly close to their hearts.
“the memory of happiness is perhaps also happiness.”
