i quite enjoyed this film, picked by my grandma. the feelings of overbearing sadness are clearly a direct result of WWII but i wish they had put more emphasis on the joy that comes with nursing and saving lives. it was mentioned in passing and expressed by lucy in one singular scene but its just an odd choice to almost completely omit that aspect. the whole time i was thinking “why the hell does anne keep putting herself in this situation instead of finding literally any other job?” it feels very pessimistic, even for how oddly optimistic its trying to be. however, its very well-acted and mostly well-written. i loved the aspect of two sisters desperately trying to find each other through the chaos of their work/love lives. again, i just wish more emphasis was put on that instead of what was the final product. that being said i enjoyed the performances. i thought carole lombard was fantastic in the role of anne. she did a lot of heavy lifting.
