i find it so weird that kids movies are universally enjoyable by everyone - i don’t think there’s a single person who could genuinely hate on this film. the whole plot of stealing the moon was really fun and i thought it was hilarious how we get no context on why this guy has 10,000+ banana-coloured creatures in his basement. what surprised me most was Gru’s character development throughout the movie. adopting the girls was literally part of the original plan, but by the end, i completely forgot about that because you can see that he genuinely starts caring for them.
i really like the message they were trying to portray here, and it felt really wholesome to see Gru actually put family above crime for once. despite being pretty annoying, Vector was a great villain - it’s quite rare you see villain vs villain, instead of hero vs villain. the only downside to this franchise is that the minions are so much more entertaining than Gru, and it feels really weird for me to want to see them more than the main character. im convinced that this is the best kids movie franchise - i just really hope they don’t drag it on too long.
