Oh hell naw they put Zack Galafianakis in Severance…
I wish this had been either longer or had some of the ideas trimmed out altogether because it ends up leaving a lot of its concepts pretty underdeveloped.
I still enjoyed it as a picture of depression and unfulfillment in a world increasingly centered on productivity and emotional pacification. Sometimes, I wish I were a man so I could experience Masculine depression like I see in movies. (Or maybe it’s all the same. But I’m inclined to think we experience adjacent versions of it based on our roles in the world.) I found myself relating to Zack but I wonder if I was a man, could I could relate more deeply to watching a masculine tv caricature, dreaming about being a war general, and not being able to fuck my wife? Really I wish there’d been more focus on all of that, would have also liked to see his wife’s parallel depression explored beyond being in the background of his own. Although I suppose that is how it would feel to be in that relationship.
Anyway I think some of the explosion/evil company stuff wasn’t necessary and was a tad (very) on the nose. But without it, it wouldn’t have the same weirdness and charm
Fuck, there’s a really good movie in here somewhere. I feel so blue balled. You should watch this though
