this is the second movie i’ve seen by mika ninagawa, and wow, just like helter skelter, it was visually stunning, but this one might be even more gorgeous, every single frame was pure eye candy, i could pause at any moment and just be amazed, the sets and colors were so unreal, i still can’t believe this was her directorial debut.
anna tsuchiya was great, but the movie itself wasn’t anything special, i don’t think they really stuck to the edo period historically, but honestly, with how beautiful everything looked, i didn’t even care, and having sheena ringo on the soundtrack? absolute perfection, she’s already my favorite artist of all time, so that just made it even better.
overall, the story wasn’t all that, but visually and musically, this movie was an experience, just completely mesmerizing from start to finish.
