Sakuran is one of those films where everything looks almost too beautiful for what it’s actually showing. The colors are intense, the visuals are rich, and it all feels very alive, but underneath that there’s this constant sense of confinement.

The goldfish imagery is pretty direct, but it works. They’re admired, displayed, but stuck and Kiyoha isn’t that different. What makes her stand out is that she doesn’t fully accept it. There’s something defiant about her, like she’s always pushing back, even when it leads nowhere.

She’s not written as perfect or romanticized either. She’s difficult, impulsive, sometimes even self-destructive, but that’s what makes her feel real. You can see how the world around her shaped that, but also how she refuses to be completely shaped by it. The film ends up feeling like a contrast between beauty and restriction something visually stunning that never really lets you forget how limited everything actually is. I really liked it and I think it’s better than memoirs of a geisha in terms of telling the story of concubines and overall oirans and geishas. They cinematography is what impressed me the most and and sometimes the punk rock music which is fit for this story.

Probably one of the best endings i have ever seen , the scenes, the colors, everything AND THE SOUNDTRACK , sheena Ringo songs really elevate the whole movie, the fitting was a little bit off but it's not the big deal
