“I ain’t gonna tell you where my gold is, but I’ll show ya”
Is one of the funniest gay subtext lines of the entire Hays Code era.

I know this movie isn’t technically a spoof, but damn it missed its calling because the falling rock bit at the beginning was hilarious and literally everything they do is so comically unserious that if they just owned the goofiness of it, we’d have a Monty Python type of movie here. 

Some other lines I wrote down in my notes:
“How do ya like your rubbin’?” 
“Tell me where to dig and I’ll see your gal is provided for”
“a man gets set for trouble head-on and it sneaks up behind him every time”
“We have a fair trade! You go loose and I get the gold mine”

The log was also hilarious. Seriously missed calling to be a full on comedy.

Jimmy Stewart proves yet again why he’s one of my all time favorites, just an all timer in every movie. However, it was Robert Ryan who stole the show, played such a great villain with charm. The other 3 cast members were excellent but it’s the script that’s the best. Every character could have their own movie detailing their life before this but we get instead a snippet of them all colliding and it’s amazing on every level.

The Naked Spur is a solid Western with some great performances, particularly from James Stewart. He portrays Howard Kemp with a compelling mix of grit, determination, and vulnerability. The film has a compelling story and some really beautiful scenery. However, the pacing feels a bit slow at times.
