Ok this is the first one I’m gonna be comprehensive on because things are starting to get really interesting.
One thing that’s been bothering me for a while now is the way Apted interrogates them in his questioning. Saying things like “aren’t you worth more than this?” Quit projecting your shit onto them man. Grow up.
It’s fascinating to watch the Reagan/Thatcher mind completely consume this generation to the point where they’re completely denying the impact of class on their lives.
First of all, the two who didn’t participate:
John - Sniveling little coward. A gross character who I admittedly wanted to love to hate through the years.
Charles - Better excuse, we’ll see.
For those that participated…
Tony - I love this for him, I’d be delighted to get into his cab and I wish nothing but the best for him.
Bruce - Fighting the good fight but tired, like the rest of us. Must be exhausted by now.
Suzi - I have a million questions, what the fuck happened here. I was genuinely sickened when Apted described her new situation as a “miracle” when it’s very clear that sweater says “help me”.
Nick - YES!!!! NICK!!!! A new favorite character, can’t wait to see what’s in store for him considering he’s in Silicon Valley. This has been my favorite progression through the years because he was cripplingly shy but seems to have really come into himself.
Peter - Oh dear. Worried about Peter.
Paul - Incredible! Talk about a glow up. Him and his wife selling it all, buying a van, and traveling thousands of miles through Australia! Fuck yes.
Andrew - The only one of the rich kids willing to still participate. It’s interesting to see how they most resent the project as a whole. But it was always clear Andrew would be the one to grow.
Neil - Certainly the most stark difference between childhood and adulthood. Definitely one of the more fascinating characters. Interestingly, he’s the most free. And also, the one I’m most concerned about staying alive.
Jackie, Lynn, Susan - I love them as a group. They seem satisfied enough but they will be getting divorced.
Simon - No one with 5 kids has ever been this chill. I aspire to these levels of chill.
