im just gonna be real i couldn’t bring myself to sit through all of this shit.
screenwriters literally went “how many corny metaphors can we fit in an hour and 30 minutes???”
nighthawks has got to be one of the best paintings ever and edward hopper is literally my biggest art hero and watching his paintings come to life in this dreamy surrealist way is insane. the set restrictive cameras angles were a nice touch. visuals in this film are amazing. the way they did the lighting to capture that still-life painting essence is amazing. wow wow wow.
it almost makes me wanna forgive how horrendously pretentious and boring the film itself is. every narrative monologue is lethargic and sounds like it’s being read straight from the script off camera by an angsty teenager– actually, i think an angry teenager would deliver more emotion than whatever that was. the pans and zooms felt like they were done in windows movie maker. i don’t even think there was a plot.
have i mentioned how awful the script and narration is?
